Republic of Guinea-Bissau (Official name) is a country located in the Northwest of the African continent with a population of 2,116,921 inhabitants. They speak Portuguese and Creole there. There are also tribal languages such as Balanta, Fula, Manjaco, Mandinka or Pepel. Its climate is tropical with the hottest month being April (23-36ºC) and the coldest month being January (19-24ºC). There is a rainy season from May to October and a dry season from November to May.
Its currency is the CFA franc, the common currency of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), linked to the euro at a fixed parity of €1=652.72 CFA francs. The religions in Guinea-Bissau are: Muslim 45.1%; Christians (Catholics and Protestants) 22.1%; animists 14.9%; and unspecified 15.9%.
Guinea-Bissau is divided into an autonomous sector (Bissau) and 8 regions: Bafatá, Biombo, Bissau, Bolama, Cacheu, Oio, Gabu, Quinara and Tombalí, and each of these, in turn, into 37 sectors. Its form of State is a semi-presidential Republic. The National Assembly is composed of 102 members elected by universal suffrage every 4 years. The President of the Republic is elected by direct universal suffrage for a period of 5 years. The 1984 Constitution was revised in 1993 and in July 1999 Parliament adopted a new Constitution.
The current President is General Umaro Sissoco Embalo (Instagram: @presidente_sissoco). He is the president of the country since February 27, 2020. He previously served as Prime Minister between November 18, 2016 and January 16, 2018.
Guinea-Bissau's main exports are cashews, which is a product primarily for export, which is normally a little over 150,000 tons; of wood (bissilao - Senegalese acacia, pau conta - afzela, pau bicho - iroko, and pau de sangue); and fish, since Guinea-Bissau has a fishing ground very rich in crustaceans, it even has some species such as tiger prawns.
There are fisheries agreements with the EU and China. The agreement with the EU is currently in force and covers the period between 2019 and 2024. Spanish shipowners are one of the foreign groups with the most interest in the country and have processed more than 40 fishing licenses.
