The President

   The current President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau is His Excellency General Umaro Sissoco Embalo. President Umaro is a political scientist, military man and politician in Guinea-Bissau, with a degree in International Relations from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon and a Master's degree in Political Science and a Doctorate in International Relations from the Complutense University. from Madrid. He speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish, and is proficient in English, French, Arabic and Swahili.

 

   He served in the military, conducting national defense studies at the Spanish National Defense Center and other national security studies in Belgium, Israel, South Africa, Japan and France. He rose to the rank of brigadier general. He is also a specialist in African and Middle Eastern affairs and in defense, international cooperation and development issues. He was Minister of African Affairs.

 

   He was Prime Minister of President José Mário Vaz, from November 18, 2016 to January 16, 2018.
